Choose TWO defintions by other students that you judge to be interesting, convicing and imaginative.
Remember, it’s hard to make up definitions that are convicing for two words that don’t make sense together. So you are looking for DEFINITIONS that were able to imaginatively MAKE SENSE and more importantly, make SENSE CONVINCINGLY. As you read thru the threads, you can see that one of the things you are looking for are logical connections between the two words and definitions that were able to reconcile the two words and put them together into a single thing. This is not easy to do, and some of the definitions were fabulous, funny, imaginative, and convincing.
3. Start a new thread. Each student will start a thread. In that thread, copy and paste BOTH of the two definitions that you found –they can be by different people.
4) For EACH of the definitions, explain in detail, what made the definition imaginative, creative and convicing. Each of the explanations should be a minumum of 5 sentences long.
5) CHECK YOUR ENTRY: At the end, you should have copied two definitions by other students, and then written a minimum of 10 lines in response.
The two students word pairs that I choose are:
1. Word Pair: Garlic Software
Evaluation: This word pair is unique, as these two words are usually not paired together. Garlic is a vegetable we consume. On the other hand, Software can be a set of instructions, codes, or programs used to run a desktop. Although both these words have completely different definitions that do not associate with each other, Garlic Software is easy to make sense of and can be used in a definition.
Definition: After watching a documentary about the dark web, I’ve been so curious about what the dark web contains. Following some considerable thinking and research, I decided to go on with my plan of viewing the dark web myself. To safely browse the dark web, I downloaded some software to protect my desktop. I first downloaded Tor Browser, which allows for untraceable anonymity while browsing. I also downloaded Garlic Software, a highly acclaimed security software application that claims to ward off hackers and viruses the same way garlic was believed to ward off “vampires”.
2. Word Pair: Occipital Dandelion
Evaluation: These 2 words are definitely different. They have absolutely nothing to do with each other due to the fact that occipital refers to something that is situatied in the back of the head. A dandelion is a bright yellow flower with a rosette of leaves and globular heads of seeds with downy tufts and stems containing a milky latex
Definition: Occipital Neuralgia is a specific kind of headache where there is a piercing, throbbing, or chronic pain in the back of the head. There are many ways to treat this but there has been another treatment found to work faster and be stronger. They have added the Dandelion as an ingrediant to specific medications like Ibuprofen and Naproxen. They call this ingredient the Occipital Dandelion. The dandelion has the symbol of growth, hope and healing. Healing is the main reason they take this dandeliluvon and put it into the ingredients.
