Make sure each paragraph is organized with a clear topic sentence

T‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍hesis 1 Please present your thesis for your first paper here. Please make sure that your thesis makes an argument about an issue of comparison and/or contrast. Please make sure that your thesis is not a statement that states the obvious. Please also make sure that your thesis is qualified. I would also advise you to take a look at this audio PPT that talks about organizing the paper. I shouldn’t have to say this, but please make sure that you look at the list of topics under Modules listed as Paper 1 so you speak specifically to one of the selected topics. You will select from one of the following topics to write your first paper: The ideal boyfriend/girlfriend and the kind that actually exists The world your parents experienced when they were your age and your own world Living in America and living anywhere else High school teachers and college professors Using an analogy, compare one of your relatives to an animal A traveler to a tourist An A student to a C student An older you and a younger you virtual class vs traditional class Instagram vs Twitter To be on social media or not Being stinking rich or comfortably comfortable Make sure you have one solid idea you have for your paper. Your thesis should come at the end of the first paragraph, but no later then the second (when you have a short paper). Make sure everything you say is directly related to your thesis. Make sure each paragraph is organized with a clear topic sentence that builds from your thesis. Make sure each paragraph is whole and related to your thesis in that it provides depth to your thesis. Your introduction should give me the necessary information needed to understand your thesis. It might begin with a general discussion of the concept with which you are working. It might begin with an anecdote appropriate to the concept. (It should not be a definition from a dictionary.) It should end with a thesis, which should be a specific claim that provides a direction for the remainder of your discussion. THE INTRODUCTION This is the place for specific discussion. Everything you say should be directly related to your thesis. Your body is not necessarily thre‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍e paragraphs or necessary five paragraphs. The number of paragraphs will depend on the how you develop your discussion. Think about your paragraphs as a necessary explanation of global ideas mentioned in the thesis. Be sure to use the following questions as a guide in expanding your body paragraphs: Why did I say that? How can I qualify that or prove the validity of what I just said? How can I make that idea more specific? What is the next logical consequence of my statement? What questions do I expect my audience will have for me? THE BODY This is the place for specific discussion. Everything you say should be directly related to your thesis. Your body is not necessarily three paragraphs or necessary five paragraphs. How can I make that idea more specific? What is the next logical consequence of my statement? What questions do I expect my audience will have for me? THE BODY Make sure that you speak specifically. Make sure that you know the difference between claims from facts. Make sure that your claims in the body of your paper are substantiated. Make sure you use quotes (where and if necessary) to make your argument specific. Make sure you explain your quotes and/or your claims. Keep in mind that your paragraphs should inform by doing three things: state, explain, and illustrate your ideas. USING EVIDENCE Conclusion Please do not use “in conclusion” or “in summary” or other introductions such as those. (They are usually thought of as being juvenile.) Your closing should be a process out of your discussion. It should not be a repetition of what you have said. (If you have done your job, I know your argument. You don’t need to say it again.) You might want to think about your closing as a discussion of the relevance of what you have said. You might want to see this paragraph as a discussion of the validity of what you have state‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍d thus far.
