As a team leader, I think diversity is very important to recognize and incorporate into group and team units. Diversity is important to have on teams as they can help bring different perspectives and creative solutions to organizational issues. These can have positive impacts and have positive effects on organizations and teams as it can drive innovation and cultivate a culture of inclusion. As a leader, I would want to make sure that diversity does not negatively impact team performance by making sure that there are clear lines, expectations, and modes of communication within my team. I would also make sure that my team is aware of policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the organization so that all team members have a clear understanding of expectations while at the workplace and while working in a team environment. These are all important steps that should be taken before the team is formed to ensure all team members have access to the same information. After the team is formed, I would make sure that all teammates have an understanding of what is expected of them and know what their roles and responsibilities are in their respective roles. If my team is to have a common goal, I would organize a charter for my team members so that they know what they are responsible for as far as deliverables and can work to achieve the shared goals. (Scandura, 2022) Teams are most effective when they are able to produce output that can be rated, when the team and organization needs are met, and retention of teammates. Fostering an environment with communication and psychological safety will help creativity and can increase innovation which is facilitated by me as a leader and being positive. (Scandura, 2022) I believe that in order for my team to grow and thrive, it will be important to make sure that there is not too much structure and organizational obstacles.
