Your discussion should be based around a close analysis of three double-page spreads from at least two books with pictures, using the terminology and concepts that you have encountered in the Block 5 materials. You might start with a consideration of the terms that are applied to different types of books with pictures, for example picture books, picturebooks and illustrated texts, and how these types of books are distinguished. This will help you choose appropriate texts from which to make your selection of page spreads. You will need to carefully consider what opportunities your choice of texts offer for you to develop a detailed discussion of the relationship between words and pictures in children’s texts and the different ways that these words and pictures might convey meaning. Remember that you need to go beyond mere description of your examples. Rather, you should consider how they convey particular aspects of a text, such as character, relationships, narrative, humour or suspense. In addition to the scans or photographs of the double-page spreads that you discuss, you may also include further images to support your points.
